Biography
Dr. Susan Hanssen is an associate professor of history at the University of Dallas, a small Catholic liberal arts university in Texas. She has taught American Civilization and Western Civilization in Dallas and on the UD campus in Rome, Italy, for twenty-five years. She earned her Ph.D. in British and American history from Rice University. Her research focuses on patriotism and the intertwining of religious, national, and local identity in British and American history.
She was a Garwood Fellow at the James Madison Program for American Ideals and Institutions at Princeton University and has taught for the James Madison Institute at Georgetown University. She has appeared on Fox News, Sky News, EWTN, and C-SPAN, and she currently hosts a radio series on Relevant Radio for the 250th Anniversary of the American Founding. Her commentary on patriotism has appeared in Public Discourse, The Federalist, and Crisis Magazine.
